Kyrgios cruises through opening round in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Australian Nick Kyrgios advanced to the second round of the Malaysian Open on Monday after scoring an easy victory over Colombian Santiago Giraldo in Kuala Lumpur. Following a four-week suspension from ATP events, seventh seed Kyrgios looked dominate as he won the first set 6-1. Giraldo later pulled out in the second, as he trailed 1-2, due to illness."My goal is to win this tournament. I hadn't played in many tournaments the past few weeks, but I have been doing a lot of hard work these past few weeks and it showed off today," said Kyrgios."I am disappointed I could not play until the end, but I played really well. I wish him (Giraldo) all the best and hope he recovers soon," he added.During last year's Malaysian Open, Kyrgios was knocked out during the first round of the tournament.Monday marked Kyrgios's return to ATP action after being fined and suspended 28 days from all ATP-sanctioned competition.
